A cornerstone of U.S. Citizenship is the protected right for you to vote in free and fair elections. Refugees know what it means to have their civil and human rights stripped away...to be powerless. But now, as American citizens, we can be active participants in our democracy by using a powerful tool...our vote.
Registering to vote is the first step toward making your voice heard. You can do it online in just a few minutes through the Ohio Secretary of State's web site at olvr.ohiosos.gov.
If you are already registered to vote in Ohio, the League of Women Voters has an excellent resource for voters at Vote411.org. There you'll find key election dates in Ohio, how to vote (by absentee mail-in or early in-person voting, or the day of the election), information about the candidates, how to check the accuracy of your voter registration/address/voting location, as well as election protection resources for voters.
Many Americans have fought and died in order for all of us to have the right to vote. Honor them and yourself by voting!
